A painting by Hector Villarroel reveals the trajectory journeyed up through the present in a canvas prepared in a way that suggests what was cast aside, the remnants, what is not visible. It suggests material held in reserve for paintings yet on the horizon. When he creates a painting, shades and hues transit to new paintings. The painter, to his credit, retains strokes and shapes that increasingly acquire a sense of place in multiple variations of color, invented in any artist’s mind, and at some point, these variations converge in the point of view comprised by the new painting.
